Kristin Winchester began her directing career at twelve years old, where she wrote a Christmas play for her church. She then cast and directed fellow youth in her production. The play was well received and Kristin was asked to write and direct plays at the church until she left for college at eighteen. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a double major in Theatre Education and English Education. During this time, Kristin found a love for directing and teaching theatre. After college, she took over a program in Durango Colorado, where she worked with the students and her incredible husband on creating productions that pushed boundaries, created state of the art designs, and challenged the student performers. During her final year at Durango High School, she was able to win top honors for her production of LES MISERABLES. The musical won best musical in the State, and the production traveled eight hours to perform for five-thousand people at the Bellco theatre in Denver, Colorado. Her husband, finding a love for technical theatre, went onto get a MFA from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Kristin found herself at Durham School of the Arts. Since being at DSA, she has worked to build a focused theatre program. She has created a rigorous curriculum, directed challenging productions, and has sent many students to BFA acting, musical theatre, and design programs across the country.
